Top 10 Tips for the Bride – The Perfect Palette
Author: Michaela Sargeant – House of Colour

Your wedding day is one of the most unforgettable moments of your life, and as the bride, all eyes are on you! Choosing the perfect style and colour palette for your bridal look, bridesmaid dresses, suits, theme colours, flowers and venue decor, can feel overwhelming with so many trends and traditions to consider. Whether you envision a timeless, elegant look or something bold and modern, the right combination of colours and styles will elevate the appearance of you and your day, not to keep everyone else happy but to make you feel confident, radiant and authentically you. These are photos you’re going to be looking back at for the rest of your life – it matters to get this stuff right! Read my Top 10 Tips to help you craft a look that is not only stunning and memorable but also uniquely yours.
1. Don’t feel pressured to wear white

Many women think they must have a white wedding dress but it might not be the best colour for you. Pure white actually only appears in the Winter seasonal palette. You might like to wear a different colour altogether but there are many versions of white – cream, ivory, oyster, champagne, light dove grey – one of these might be a better choice for you.
2. Get advice from the professionals
Have your colours and style analysed in plenty of time ahead of your wedding outfit shopping, to make your shopping experience much easier and stress-free. Use your new knowledge about what suits you to help you make informed decisions about your wedding dress, going away and honeymoon outfits, accessories and hair and makeup for the big day. Wearing the right makeup shades will maximise your look and your confidence on this most important day.

3. Accessorise well
Use accessories to show your personality in your outfit. Some might say your wedding day can’t possibly have too much sparkle, but this might not connect with you. Choose jewellery or hair accessories to compliment your most authentic style.
4. Be picky with colour
Having too many colours flying around can look disorganised and uncoordinated. Having a select few colours that you know serve you well is the best way to keep things colourful, yet classically stunning. Use your WOW colours, and those of your groom, to choose your theme colour(s) and really mark the day out as yours.
5. A beautiful bouquet

Add stunning impact to your day by surrounding yourselves and your guests with flowers that complement your colours and style. Even holding the colours that suit your skin tone close to you will brighten your complexion and enhance your look. Choose a bridal bouquet that goes with your body shape and dress style. Neither the style nor colour should be overpowering or unmanageable – making the right choices will make everything sing out in harmony together!
6. Tread carefully
The old classic – make sure you are wearing comfortable shoes – or have some at hand to change into as the day goes on! Wearing shoes in a WOW colour is another way to make a subtle but clear statement.
7. Say no to matchy matchy
Your wedding party does not need to completely match. In fact this can sometimes create a disjointed look. Choose two colours from your own seasonal palette, or have a range of similar tones so there is still coordination, but also individuality. Remember different colours suit different people so trying to have a one-size-fits-all-all approach isn’t advisable – unless of course, you decide on true red (think mid/postbox red!) which suits everybody! If your bridal party all have their colours done, they will be able to wear their own season’s versions of your chosen theme colour which will not only create a stunning harmonious look on the day but will also maximise their presence and make them all feel amazing!!
8. Show off your ring
Style extends to your ring too! Is it big or small scale – how sparkly is it – how are the diamonds cut? Having your analysis done in time means you can make sure you have the most perfect ring for you. Everyone will be keen to see it so a lovely manicure and French polish or colour for your nails is perfect. If you are a warm season (Autumn or Spring) then warmer colours will suit you. Summers and Winters should choose cooler tones.
9. Leave with a bang
If you plan to leave your wedding in a different going away outfit, this is another chance to look gorgeous in a WOW colour and something that is in your perfect style. A memorable entrance and a memorable exit to top it all off.
10. Good vibes on honeymoon!
You will probably take tons of photos on your honeymoon and want to feel fabulous on your special time away together. Spend time thinking about packing and investing in a couple of new items to make you feel extra special. A swimsuit, evening outfit and pashmina can be great honeymoon staples to get right. Don’t forget your favourite lipsticks from your season to keep you feeling stunning day and night!
