Music Makes Memories Charity Concert – March 2023

Music Makes Memories took place on Friday, 24th March 2023, at a wonderful local venue that fully backed and supported the event. Newtown Sports & Social Club, based in Bognor Regis, was the host, with its manager, Hayley, fully behind the event and excited to support it on behalf of the charity.
Why Dementia Support at Sage House?
Dementia Support, based at Sage House, is a place that offers support and guidance to those with Dementia or Alzheimer’s and their families. Dementia Support was established in 2014, and the Dementia Hub, known as Sage House, was officially opened in 2018 by HRH The Princess of Wessex. Since then, it has gone from strength to strength with the amazing work it did for the community and its residents.
What did they do?
Daisy’s Cafe
Sage House offered a variety of activities and services and was open Monday to Friday. Daisy’s was their café and the central meeting point of the hub, featuring chatter tables, as well as marvellous cakes and coffee. I personally visited several times, and it was such a pleasant, warm, and inviting place to meet. They served hot and cold food between 8:45 am and 4 pm, though on rare occasions, the café was closed for special events.
Wayfinders
Wayfinders were essential to Dementia Support, providing tremendous support to families coping with the difficult times and decisions they had to make regarding their loved ones and their condition. From a personal perspective, Wayfinders were fantastic in helping my family navigate challenging situations, and we always looked for ways to say thank you for the wonderful work they did.
Personal Care, Respite Breaks, Hairdressing, and Other Services
Dementia Support provides a wide range of services to assist those caring for someone with Dementia or Alzheimer’s. The facility included a fully functional hair salon and beauty room, along with counsellors and professionals on-site. Daily activities were held for those with the condition, offering both engagement for them and respite for their caregivers.
Music Makes Memories – One BIG THANK YOU
Zoe Pniewski, Owner of My Special Event, along with her mother Yvonne, came up with the idea of saying thank you to Dementia Support by organising and hosting a charity concert. Music Makes Memories was born in the previous year, and planning began to make it the best concert possible while raising money and awareness for this incredible charity.
The event featured several acts performing in a cabaret-style setting, offering a variety of performances to entertain the audience.
My Special Event had previously organised various charity events successfully, and this event was no exception.
Music for Everyone’s Taste
Music Makes Memories delivered a diverse range of music genres. Classic pieces from West End and Broadway Musicals and Movies were performed by GenerationsSingingDuo, a mother-and-daughter duo who had been performing together for over 20 years, both in Britain and beyond.
Vintage Candy Singing Duo – Carrie & Jay
The local duo, Vintage Candy Singing Duo, performed a mix of Vintage, Swing, and Rock ‘n’ Roll. They had previously performed in various venues, including local care homes and Goodwood Festivals.
Cheryl Craven
A talented local artist, Cheryl Craven, took the stage with her guitar. Having performed at various local festivals, Cheryl was well known on the performance circuit.
Sharon Wicks
Local mum Sharon Wicks provided an acoustic set, offering soft folk covers with a modern twist. Accompanied by Cheryl, Sharon delighted the audience with her ukulele performance.
The compere for the evening was none other than Local Chichester Radio’s Malcolm Gray.
A Fantastic Night with Lots to Offer
In addition to the amazing music, the event featured a fantastic raffle with 40 generously donated prizes, including days out, signed memorabilia from celebrities, hampers, and bubbly. Despite the cost of living crisis, many local businesses contributed wonderful prizes, helping to raise even more money for the charity.
The event was well attended and a great success, bringing people together for a night of music, entertainment, and heartfelt appreciation for the incredible work done by Dementia Support at Sage House.
